What's Happening This Week

 

January is a busy month at Senior Citizens, Inc. After the Senior Center has been closed from Dec. 24th to Jan. 2nd, everyone is glad to be getting back to the regularly-scheduled programs.

All the groups which meet regularly at the Senior Center will be back on their schedules beginning Monday, January 5th. The “Adventures in Healthy Living” program series will begin on Wednesday, January 14th. Check out the Calendar section for information about each program in January.

A new Grief Support Group will begin their meetings every Tuesday beginning January 20th. This group, “Life After Loss,” will meet weekly at the Senior Center.

After being dark in December, the Senior Book Club will be returning to their regularly scheduled meetings at the Lake Isabella Branch library on Thursday, January 8th.

Senior Food Boxes will be available at the Senior Center back parking lot on Friday, January 2nd. The Senior Food Boxes will also be available in Mt. Mesa on Monday, January 12th.

The Senior Nutrition Site lunches will resume on Friday, January 2nd. In-person lunches will be served daily, except for Monday, Jan. 19th. The Senior Center is closed on Monday, January 19th in observation of Martin Luther King Day. The closure is for both the Nutrition Site lunches and for all other activities at the Senior Center.

Kern River Valley Senior Citizens, Inc.: Supporting Older Adults Since 1981 The Kern River Valley Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI) is a non-profit corporation that has been supporting adults age 60+ in the Kern River Valley (KRV) since 1981.

 

Through comprehensive programs, SCI connects seniors to essential resources, engaging activities, and vital support systems that promote healthier, more independent living. SCI is dedicated to creating a robust network where neighbors support neighbors, enabling community members to age with dignity in their own homes and community for as long as possible. By fostering meaningful relationships and providing timely resources and referrals as needs arise, SCI ensures that all members can both contribute to and benefit from a vibrant, purposeful, and caring community.

This integrated approach not only addresses practical needs but also cultivates a sense of belonging and purpose that enhances overall well-being for all folks throughout the Kern River Valley.
